General

  • Gel polish is a type of nail polish that requires curing under a specialized LED or UV lamp to set and harden. This curing process creates a durable and long-lasting manicure that can withstand everyday wear and tear without chipping or fading.

  • ColorMe only offers HEMA-free gel polish.

  • Gel polish can last about 14 days, or two weeks, without chipping or peeling. However, the lifespan of gel polish can vary depending on several factors, such as the application technique, and the condition of the natural nails.

  • Acrylic and hard gel nails are artificial nail enhancements cured under UV or LED light. Acrylic nails are made with a liquid monomer and powder polymer, while hard gel nails use a thick gel substance. Acrylics are ideal for longer, sculpted nails, while hard gel is best for shorter, natural-looking nails. Gel nail polish is also cured under UV or LED light and is used for a variety of nail designs. Gel nail polish is used without artificial nail enhancements. The choice comes down to personal preference and lifestyle.

  • The gel peel-off base coat is generally considered the easiest gel polish to remove. The peel-off base coat can be simply peeled away from the nail without the need for soaking or filing. This makes it a convenient option for those who prefer a quicker and gentler removal process.

  • A small group of people is unfortunately allergic to the acrylates found in gel polish.

If you notice a mild allergic reaction after application, we advise you to stop using gel polish immediately, as the allergy can build up over time.

LED lamp

  • Led lamps use technology that’s similar but more efficient than uv lamps. When it comes to curing gel polish, LED nail lamps achieve the same results in less than half the time required by UV lamps. They don’t emit the same uvas or uvbs, and you don’t need to replace the bulbs like you do with uv lamps.

  • Avoid looking directly into any light source to prevent potential eye damage.

  • No, gel polish will not harden without exposure to UV or LED lamp. These lamps are necessary to initiate the curing process, resulting in a hard and durable finish of the gel polish.

Good to know

  • To keep your gel polish fresh and ready for use, store it in a dark place at room temperature. Avoid leaving it near a window or under a light, as exposure to light can cause it to dry out over time, both in the bottle and on the brush.
  • For a mirror-like shine with your gel polish, ensure that your LED lamp is on during curing, leave your nails under the lamp for the recommended duration, and periodically clean the inside reflector surface of your LED lamp.
  • UV light exposure, whether from the sun or artificial sources, can cause gel polish to fade. Additionally, ingredients like DEET found in sun creams, after sun products, and insect repellents can lead to a patchy effect on your nails. To avoid this, wash your hands and nails well after use to maintain the shine of your nail polish.
